After many
years, approximately 2,000,000 kilometers and all the long hours
and overnight’s away from home under my belt whilst making
my living as an owner/driver and on wages as a Truck Driver, it
was time for a drastic change in lifestyle.
We had been
looking for a while, on a casual basis, for a business opportunity
and as the lure of being my own boss strengthened, it was a turning
point the day we read the advertisement for becoming a Jim’s
Fencing franchisee.

I contacted Dean to
find out more about how a franchise worked. Dean was able to answer
all of my questions and also gave me the name of a couple of other
franchisees to contact and get an overview of the business, e.g.
earnings, workload and support from the franchisor.
It was an easy decision
to make and the process was very painless as Dean, Meesha and
Dave Czynski were always available and answered every question
that Chris and I had. Their support and expertise is an on-going
process and has certainly helped our business to become successful.
To that end, I am now a Trainer and am currently training my second
franchisee. This is a bonus because I find that I really enjoy
passing along the knowledge that I have gained and I know that
at the end of the training that they will do the Jim’s Group
proud.
I have a solid relationship with several Real Estate agencies,
one Government Department and also have a large repeat client
base and word of mouth referrals. It is also nice to be complimented
regularly on the presentation of our ute and trailer and I believe
that this also has contributed to our success. Currently, I have
booked out work for the next twelve weeks.
Not long after commencing with Jim’s I took on my first
off-sider due to the heavy lifting involved with Hardifence and
also to better service my clients. This has proved to be a successful
step and one that I would recommend to any franchisee, particularly
with the high demand in Western Australia for Hardifence.
Chris is kept busy in the office with the paperwork which not
only keeps her involved and up to date with our business but is
a bonus for me and negates the need for a bookkeeper.
The Eagle Award was an unexpected extra and I am very proud to
have been chosen for this honour. We would like to again thank
Dean and Meesha Watson, our Franchisor’s and Dave Czynski
for all of their help and support.

In 2004 I
decided to leave my job as a fitter and turner, and find myself
an outdoors business in which I felt I would have some success
in. After assessing the franchises and small businesses available
in Brisbane I came to the conclusion that a Jim's Fencing franchise
would provide an outdoor, customer interactive business and would
provide the support that I would need in a new business.

I
am glad I made such a great decision, I feel I have grown a strong
business from scratch and had support as needed. I am a firm believer
in the Jim's name, branding and franchise methods. After four
years, I have now reached the stage where all of my work is through
referrals or ongoing contacts, and often simply result of Jim's
Fencing signage on my truck & trailer.
I have built
up an 'arsenal' of tools to now include a toro mini digger, a
truck and believe one of my best sales features is a photo site
on the web which is full of examples of my work and helps with
style suggestions for the undecided.
I am loving
the outdoor work, talking with both customers and chatty neighbours
alike and producing a quality product the customer is happy with
and I can be proud of. It is a great feeling to say at the end
of the day “I built that”
