David and Mandy Fitzpatrick - Nth Perth WA

We purchased our franchise _ Jim’s Fencing (Kalamunda) in late 2006 after looking at many different businesses over an 18 month period. We wanted a business we could work together that provided adequate income, job satisfaction, scope to expand if and when we felt it necessary and a business that we could involve and fit in around our family. The low initial set up costs, ongoing training and support and more than adequate potential profit level was also a huge contributing factor for us going into the franchise.

Our experience as farmers over the previous 25 years, with a heavy involvement in managing finances, building projects, rural fencing and working together as a team helped us adapt well to the residential fencing game.

We are very fortunate to be based in a Perth hills suburb where we are within close proximity to a majority of our suppliers and where the hills community is committed to supporting local business and seems to be very loyal.

Most days we work together on the job and quote together when possible – clients like to see a united front and especially a husband and wife team that work together. Mandy also does the book keeping – you should never underestimate the benefits of spousal support, it can be a very long day/week without help on the job or in the office.
A duel focus, if possible, is definitely essential in any business and our long term approach to the business is one of unity. Who knows, if we stay with Jim’s long enough our children may even take over our franchise!

We have both greatly enjoyed the challenges and the diverse variety of work we have carried out as well as meeting and working for a high percentage of very pleasant, friendly hills clients. We feel a great sense of achievement and satisfaction in completing each one of our fencing jobs to the very best of our ability and having happy and very often repeat clients who recommend us to their family and friends.
We also enjoy socialising and working closely alongside, exchanging hints and tips of the fencing trade with other franchise owners in our Region.

We are extremely grateful for the training and support we have received over the last 3 years from Jim’s group and particularly our franchisors (and now good friends) David and Kerri Czynski – they do a fantastic job keeping in contact regularly to ensure we are happy, they are only too willing to answer the numerous questions we pose to them and generally help out in any way possible.

Our business has exceeded our original expectations and we are proud to be part of the Jim’s Fencing team in Western Australia.

Gavin White - Central Southern Sydney

After 17 years working as a shearer I was looking for a change. I was becoming bored of living in a country town with limited employment and business prospects, so I decided to make the big move to Sydney.

Not sure what occupation I could turn to in the city. I searched for business opportunities, as I had always wanted my own business and I came across Jim's fencing.

Building agricultural fences was something I had experience in, so then concept of building colorbond fences was not that difficult. I felt that a Jim's franchise was the best way to make a start in to business as there was a great system and support network to assist with the running of the business and the Jim's brand name is well know and has a good reputation for high standard of workmanship. I made the big leap and purchased the Sutherland franchise from Rodney Gadsden in 2006.

4 years later business is going well and I get great satisfaction from my work sometimes dealing with the public can be difficult, but by being professional and thorough most problems can be avoided.
