After working as a Cabinet Maker for 11 years predominately in commercial fit outs, the long hours had taken its toll on me and my family not to mention taking the enjoyment out of Cabinet Making.

 

I decided I needed a new challenge and had always wanted to work outdoors. A friend of mine had a Jim’s Fencing Franchise which he was looking to sell. I completed two days of work with him and enjoyed it; I brought the business from him and have found it to be very rewarding and profitable. Having a business of our own has given me the opportunity to spend quality time with my family and the freedom to take holidays whenever I want.

The thing I really like about Jim’s Fencing is they are dedicated to their team by offering ongoing support and training. The training is vital when starting out as a new franchisee and continues throughout your time with Jim’s and even though you own your own business you are always made to feel like a part of a team thanks to their support network.

I am now in my 3rd year and the business has grown beyond what I could have ever imagined. I have been doing work for a major builder for the past two years and am currently in the process of negotiating a two year contract which entails work to be carried out throughout Victoria.

I alway’s had a vision of being self-employed, straight out of school I was too young and in-experienced. Then in due course I got married & had a family, therefore could not justify the risk of starting over.

Although I enjoyed working at Australia Post as a Postie on a motorbike, I wanted something more. Knowing how much I loved working outdoor’s, & with power tools, subconsciously I would take particular care at the numerous ‘Jim’s Fencing’ trailers driving around the streets of Melbourne. Then one day the penny dropped and I started to research a ‘Jim’s Fencing’ franchise.

I felt that this was the best of both worlds. I had the security of a large well-known company and the endorsement of an established brand to back me, as well as the freedom of working for myself and aspiring for more. Jim’s provided me with the training and initial leads to kick start my business.

Over the past 5 years I have progressed from just erecting paling fences, through leads, to building colorbond, pool fencing, pickets, feature fences & retaining wall's.

Today my business is booming via the most credible marketing channels; word of mouth and repeat business, to the point where I had to employee a full-time employee.

The best part of it all is, I still attain a great deal of satisfaction from delivering a quality product with exceptional customer service.
