May 2008 Regional Fencing Eagles.....

Phillip Wilson - Buninyong

After many years working behind a desk I decided it was time for a change, although I enjoyed my work I always felt that there was more to life. I was working long hours and because I was in the Tourist Industry I had to work weekends and holidays as these were our busiest times. I needed to free up my time so I could enjoy my sport interests of a weekend and of course my family.

I have a big Trade background working in many industries and have operated my own business in the past, I knew it was time to do this again and looked hard for an opportunity. An ad in the local paper had me asking the question about a Jim’s Fencing Franchise and obviously that is the path I chose.

I am now into my third year as a Jim’s Fencing Franchisee; I enjoy my weekends and have had numerous holidays with my family that would never have happened had I not started with Jim’s. I have built my business by following the Jim’s system and now as a trainer promote the system for all new Franchisees.

The introduction of new products and training make this a great business for the future for all Franchisees, and although we operate our own business, it’s great to have other Franchisees to trade ideas with and to help each other, what other self run business has this support.

Allister Rolls - Clayton

I have been in the "Jim's" system for about 14 years now, this is my second year in fencing after about 12 years in the Mowing Division, which I joined directly after leaving school.

Over the years I built my mowing round up and split (sold a portion) 4 times. I employed an apprentice for 3 years and made quite a decent living. I loved the fact I could work where and when I wanted and have holidays when it suited me.

Towards the end of my time in mowing I was completely sick of mowing lawns. I desperately needed a change in career. Having been in the Jim's system for so long and loving the freedom it gave me, I decided to buy into one of the other divisions of Jim's. After doing some research on various divisions, I decided to choose fencing. I thought this would be a big challenge as I had never picked up a saw or nail gun before. I now employ the guy who bought my mowing round off me to mow my lawns at home.

The training Jim's Fencing provided me with really gave my business a head start and helped me to learn quickly. So far I have built paling fences (and the many variations), colorbond, feature pickets, gates and pool fencing, the customer feedback so far has been very positive.

One of the things I like most about fencing is that new products are becoming available through Nick Drake providing us all with something new to challenge us.

Overall I would have to say that over the last year and a half I have achieved enormous job satisfaction working as a Jim's Fencer!
