Chris Grieve - Barossa Valley

I arrived in Australia in 2002 from Scotland where I came from a rural background. I worked on stations & properties in most states in Australia before meeting my wife and settling in South Australia.

I graduated with an Honours Degree from Glasgow University & Post Graduate Business qualifications prior to arriving in Australia; these have set me in good stead for over-seeing the running of the book-keeping & administrative side of the business (my wife organises the book-keeping side of the operation and I oversee P&L/cash flow and do all quoting etc...).

I purchased Jim’s Fencing (Barossa Valley) in 2007 as a new franchise area.

I have always had the desire to run my own business and after extensive research (into various opportunities) I kept returning to the Jims Fencing Group. The brand awareness (exposure), support network and public reputation of the group are highly regarded. After an initial meeting with the Franchisor I soon started on site training. This was an invaluable hands on period that gave me the fast track needed to immediately launch into business.

My agricultural fencing background provided the perfect prior experience to transfer into the world of domestic and commercial fencing. I now have a full time employee on board and a reliable sub-contractor I use from time to time. The business is continuously growing as is our reputation in the Barossa Valley area. Our company now has strong links with real estate agents, local builders, regional council, landscapers and developers. 3 years later... I am glad I took the leap into starting the franchise business.

I still get a real buzz out of a completed job that a customer compliments me upon and knowing I have achieved something worthwhile with my time.

Sean Pollock - Benidgo

For nearly 2 years I have been part of the Jims Group Fencing Division after working with different businesses within the farming industry for 10 years.  With a young family looming my wife and I decided to research the option of working for ourselves giving us flexible work hours.

After looking at different franchises and businesses we chose the Jims group, due to the ongoing support and training that was offered.

Jims Fencing was new to the Bendigo region, so it was a challenge at the beginning to let the public know that Jims had a fencing division.

After Sean completed his training in Ballarat we commenced our business in the middle of the year, missing out on a yellow pages advertisement.

Our franchisors (Darren & Catherine Hayes – Jims Fencing Western Victoria & Geelong) advertised editorials and Jims Fencing adds in the local paper.  They helped deliver pamphlets to the streets of Bendigo, and gave ongoing support when needed.

Nearly two years on we have established a reputation for a high standard of work with Australian made products to the Bendigo region, which we now pass on to new franchise owners as regional trainers.

We are proud of what we have achieved so far and are looking forward to expanding our business further in the near future.
